South African Ruling Party in Hot Water Over Debt Arrears

The ruling African National Congress is facing the prospect of having its assets attached, after their lawyers failed to meet a deadline for an appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal. The party reportedly failed to pay a Kwazulu-Natal based marketing company for printing election materials four years ago.

The party has been experiencing financial troubles for some time. Workers directly employed by the party have in the past not been paid their full salaries and other mandatory obligation such payments to the Uemployment Insurance Fund.
